karen Asked: ADT alarm sensors going off for no reason?

I have an ADT wireless alarm system for a little over a year. Sunday night around 10pm, the alarm went off in the kitchen and we noticed someone parked out front and then the car sped away once he saw us. We thought someone tried to break in so we called the police. Last night, the living room window sensor alarm went off, while I was sitting there watching TV. I didnt hear a thing nor did I notice anyone lurking around. Is is possible that the sensors would go off for no reason? I dont know if this is a fluke, or if someone really is trying to break in. Has anyone had a problem with their celluar wireless ADT alarms going off for no reason at night? ADT is coming tomorrow for a service call and I am so worried that they will tell me there is nothing wrong with the system. What would make different sensors go off for no reason all of a sudden? I would love to hear if anyone has any similar stories, thanks

Is your house equipped with PIR's (Motion Sensor's) if so the only way they could set off the alarm is if it was activated, same with the window's if it was heavy wind they could maybe go off depending on the sensetivity setting. Call up ADT and get the to come and check it out. Personally i would reccomend using IMMS

It could be the sensor settings are set too sensitive, but unless the system had a scheduled update without your knowledge, and the update made the settings more sensitive,
you would've noticed before now.

It could also mean you have a mouse in the house, who's big enough to trigger the sensor, but not big enough to really be seen or heard by you..or even a bat.

My ADT alarm went off repeatedly (to the point I just turned the whole thing off). But my house was from the 1920's and the system was set up via a landline. It would trigger itself constantly..most friends/family ADT techs concluded it was the ghost of the woman who lived there prior to myself..some refused to come back. (ha)

It's as if ONCE that system's triggered, it's trigger happy, I do know that.
-
You could've left a window unlatched, or maybe the whole system has to be rebooted.

Last but not least;
Phone Law Enforcement & ask for a few extra patrols. Ask for the Watch Commander and see if there have been break ins in your area in the last weeks. Not trying to scare you but I don't like the sound of this. Here's why:
If you're a burglar, & you've already set off the alarm once..HOW STUPID are you, if you opt to go back to a house you KNOW has an alarm? If you're THAT stupid, you're either too crazy to care..or reckless = DANGEROUS. Most criminals want to get in & out, asap..without being detected. They avoid homes w/ people home, barking dogs, cars in the driveway, & alarms. IF this person's come back, there may be other motives there, besides robbing your home. His motive may be something else and that's frightening.

Have ADT really investigate what's triggering that thing and really search by windows outside, to see if there's sign of an intruder having touched, jimmied, or left footprints (close to where alarm was triggered). Leave more lights on, music playing, make it appear more active. Borrow a dog from a friend. Really check out who follows when you're running in & out. Be careful. Pay a visit to neighbors and keep an eye on each other. Police can start a neighborhood watch program; having all interested neighbors meet to hear details + post Neighborhood watch signs.

I know I sound ultra paranoid, but I have had a home-invasion and I was home for it. It's the most terrifying thing you can imagine. Be really careful.

Either your batteries are going low, and/or you have dual shock sensors that need to be adjusted or replaced. Its as simple as that. This is a cut and dry service call and they will replace the batteries and adjust the sensor if possible, or just replace it all together.
