Families’ shock as they watch flock of seabirds drown in fishing nets 50 yards

Families on a wintry stroll were forced to watch in horror as a flock of seabirds drowned when they became entangled in fishing nets. Would-be rescuers were prevented from venturing out to release the distressed flock by the rough seas, despite the fact they were just 50 yards off the Southwell coastal path at Freshwater Bay, near Portland, Dorset. Walkers on the rocky coastline raised the alarm after they saw the guillemots and razorbills struggle to break free from the nylon netting.
